Editor's note:In Chinese mythology, Qixi Festival, which falls on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month, celebrates the annual meeting of Niulang, the cowherd, and Zhinu, the weaver girl. The two lovers traveled across the Milky Way, walking down a bridge formed by magpies, to reunite with each other. This romantic fairytale still captures the imagination of many Chinese.

On August 17, the 2018 Chinese wedding ceremony of Guiyang Confucius Academy was held, which coincided with the Chinese Valentine’s Day(Qixi). Fifty new couples from inside and outside Guizhou Province held a traditional and elegant wedding ceremony in the Etiquette Square of Confucius Academy.

“Traditional weddings are very attractive to young people, just as passing through the thousand years of time-space veil. We have hoped all along that there will be such a special wedding to witness our love.”Gui Chen and Zhang Hang, the newly married couple who were born in the 1990s, said to the reporters.

The bridegroom Wang Shouling is from Shandong Province and his elder sister attended the Chinese wedding ceremony of Confucius Academy in 2015. “I came here to take pictures for my elder sister and appreciate the ceremony that year, completely touched by such a traditional and solemn wedding ceremony. Therefore, my wife and I also decide to hold a traditional Chinese wedding at present to commemorate it.”

Among the 50 new couples, Zhou Chungui and his wife were the only one with their children present at the ceremony. “Today is the Chinese Valentine’s Day, also the 10th anniversary of our marriage, making us wish to relive the feeling of getting married at that time.”

Since 2013, the traditional wedding has been held once a year, and six ceremonies have been held successfully at Confucius Academy. More than 200 new couples got married in such an ancient way.
